Of course, the emotions just keep on coming because we then get the Michael and Sara reunion (finally!).

The way, by the end of the scene, he just quietly says “please.” Whip is younger than Michael and it did always appear like he looked up to him. Whip and Michael’s relationship continues on and it was actually really sad, to see Whip get so emotional over possibly losing Michael. Something that must have been unsettling for him because it’s usually him who has the plan and is leading the charge. Even though we’ve seen them fight, they always come together in the end.Īlthough it was obvious Michael wasn’t going to die, it was still kind of intense to see him so vulnerable and, for once, with his fate completely in other people’s hands. It’s clearly showcased throughout the season how close they characters became while in prison. His goodbye with Whip was also really wonderful to see. From the moment they arrive, it was clear that he loved it there and it was nice to know that he got some kind of happy ending. If this season had been any longer I would be really sad about Ja choosing to stay behind, however, because it is so short I was just happy to see him happy. Of course, that means that one moment of happiness is going to be turned upside down, even just a little. The fact that she was just willing to hop on a plane and go to save his life was fantastic. It was nice to see her laugh.Įspecially considering we then move on to her receiving a phone call from Lincoln, confirming that it really is their Michael and he’s out but needs her help. Lincoln wants his brother to get help but he also doesn’t want Michael to be arrested, Whip doesn’t care about Michael being arrested so long as he lives, and while they butt heads over the decision you see that Ja was about to go over and check on Michael, to make sure he’s okay.Įven though we know he’s the villain, I did appreciate the little moment between Jacob and Sara. It’s interesting to see tensions rise because this scene shows how they all care about Michael and what happens to him. You can tell that they do genuinely care about each other and have developed a very real (and very strong) relationship through their time working together. (Photo: CBS.Whip taking care of Michael and trying to reassure him was so great to see. Next week – Bozer’s getting involved! Find out more over at this link. At the same time, though, you have to praise the show for giving consistent action and entertainment that kept things moving along. It’s not altogether memorable and failed to add much to the prison-escape action blueprint - let alone some of the larger mythologies of the show.

PRISON BREAK SEASON 1 EPISODE 7 MAC

There’s your happy ending! Mac got a chance to head back home in one piece, hopefully realizing that prison is the last place he ever wants to go for an undercover mission again.Īs for Riley, the final moments served as a reminder of not only how valuable she was in the end to located MacGyver after the kidnapping, but also how tough she was for surviving in there for two years.Įpisode Grade: B. Some of the poignancy that was there with MacGyver speaking of his father or other matters of the heart in recent weeks was gone here, and this episode was largely prison-escape fluff. He was about to be tortured at the El Noche compound when he heard sound of helicopters, and was then able to make his escape.

No human being would be alive after five minutes doing most of the stuff that happens here, so you just gotta go along for the ride. Was Mac’s last-ditch effort to make Riley, Jack, and the rest of the crew aware of his position a stretch? Absolutely, but at the same time, that’s the kind of show this is.

This led him being kidnapped! The escape happened (success), but the downside was facing the possibility of horrible death. He wasn’t going to kill a guard when give proper opportunity, so it was easy to blow his cover. Here was the problem: Mac’s still a good guy. Luckily, Mac was able to do most of his necessary bonding with El Noche in the midst of an escape, showing off his skills and proving himself as a regular Houdini opportunity with such tools as a mop and a diversion of tied-together blankets. All of a sudden, Angus and Jack had to figure out a way to do this more on their own, without compromising their cover and still achieving their mission.

(Also, seeing her alongside Bozer is hysterical.) She was the one who appointed to help properly determine a way for Mac to get out of prison was successful, but a problem quickly surfaced: The Prison reconfiguring its security, rendering it impossible for her to help. First and foremost, establishing Riley’s history with prison presented an opportunity to flesh out that character beyond the “confident hacker” archetype that’s become common across many shows. For “MacGyver” and “Can Opener,” they did just that.
